Phonemic Awareness

We often see games and activities where spelling words  are broken up and put into boxes.
The attached link will give you some background to why we do this.  One of the major reasons for poor spelling is poor phonemic awareness.  There is a video on this link that will show you how to use Elkonin Boxes when conferencing students about their writing.  The Reading Rockets website has lots of great ideas on it....have a peruse while you are there.

Story Telling Apps. PLD Parent Information.

Please find below a link to some suggested story telling Apps.  Some of these look like great fun as well as being educational.

They could be used to develop comprehension by doing retells or exploring characters.
Bring some of the ideas you come up with to the next PLC to share.
Remember that verbalizing a story before writing it helps to prepare students for writing.

Story Telling Apps.

Following Parent Teacher Interviews it may be of assistance to you to use some of the information available on the PLD website to give parents ideas on ways in which they can help their children.

PLD Parent Information.

Today I made a set of "Into the Book" comprehension posters for each classroom.  As soon as the laminate machine  returns they will be laminated and ready for display.  It is our aim to use these comprehension strategy headings in all classrooms.  We will also send this information out to parents in the near future so that they too will be familiar with the strategies.

Don't for get to visit the CEO intranet and look at the great resources available to you under the curriculum tab.

Have a great week.
